Poroshenko will be hit from both sides
In Ukraine, another round of political confrontation is expected over the extension of the law on the special status of Donbass, which is provided for by the Minsk agreements.
The Kiev online newspaper “Strana” writes about this, recalling that the corresponding bill was introduced to parliament by President Poroshenko, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“There is no doubt that he is doing this while gritting his teeth, because any mention of a special status hurts the already started election campaign, which, as you know, is based on “the army, language and faith,” and not at all a compromise with Donbass , leading to peace. However, there is such a word as “must”. Two Irinas - Lutsenko and Gerashchenko - started a warning explanatory campaign on Monday about the fact that there will be no special status, there will only be another noodle hung on the ears of the West so that it will extend sanctions against Russia,” the publication notes.
The publication believes that deputies of the coalition and related factions will be guided by the same arguments when voting for the president’s proposal, but at the same time, it will not be possible to avoid unwanted publicity in the run-up to the elections.
“And they will hit Poroshenko from both sides. On the nationalist side, about movement in the “Kremlin’s wake” (as the vice-speaker of Samopomich, Syroid, has already stated). And with the anti-war one - regarding the fact that the president not only could not end the war in a matter of hours, but also does not want to end it for four and a half years. It is true that to sweeten the pill for the first group, language bills will be submitted to the Rada tomorrow, providing for the total Ukrainization of almost all spheres of the country’s life,” the publication notes.
