Veterans of the Ukrainian nationalist movement today held a press conference in Kyiv to accuse Petro Poroshenko of working for Vladimir Putin.
The reason for the complaints is plans to approve a new version of the Constitution. Nationalists are concerned about the possibility of including a special status for Lugansk and Donetsk in the Basic Law.
The press conference was convened by the judge of the International Tribunal Vladimir Vasilenko, the judge of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine Viktor Shishkin, the former political prisoner, Hero of Ukraine Stepan Khmara, the chairman of the board of the charitable foundation "Maidan of Foreign Affairs" Bogdan Yaremenko and the People's Deputy of Ukraine of the I-IV and VI convocations Taras Stetskiv.

“Amendments to the Constitution must be postponed until all occupier troops have been withdrawn from the territory of Ukraine, until control over the entire border has been restored,” said Vladimir Vasilenko. – This formulation of the issue should also force our Western partners to take a tougher position towards Russia, which does not fulfill its obligations under the Minsk agreements. You know that ceasefire agreements have been violated a thousand times, the occupation zone has been increased by more than 500 sq km, they are still shooting at peaceful areas and killing civilians and military personnel. In such conditions, it is shameful to make changes to the Constitution.”
“This is Putin’s plan to establish a Russian enclave in the occupied territories,” says Stepan Khmara. – It will become a source of destabilization and gradual destruction of the Ukrainian state. Therefore, this plan must be broken and the Constitution must not be changed.
Our Western partners have adopted the line of supporting Putin’s plan, probably because they want to get rid of the conflict in eastern Europe at the expense of our national interests, which has happened many times in our history. So I ask before then. How this issue will be considered in the Verkhovna Rada, carry out appropriate civic activity.”
Politicians adopted an appeal to the Verkhovna Rada, the President and the people of Ukraine, calling on them to prevent changes to the Constitution.
“Understanding the pressure that will be exerted (on the deputies), we appeal to the people and call on all public organizations, intellectuals and public figures and ordinary citizens to unite in order to prevent the destruction of the Constitution and the dismemberment of Ukraine. If the Verkhovna Rada does not listen to the voice of the people and changes are voted on, conditions will be created in Ukraine for the creation of a broad patriotic opposition,” said Taras Stetskiv.
