Poroshenko gave, Poroshenko took: They want to deprive a fighter against autocephaly in Ukraine of citizenship
They want to deprive the former Russian, and now Ukrainian oligarch and Verkhovna Rada deputy Vadim Novinsky, of Ukrainian citizenship. The Russian Nezavisimaya Gazeta writes about this.
The publication refers to the words of one of the experts, who, on condition of anonymity, said that the question of depriving Novinsky of citizenship would be raised in connection with his principled position on the issue of creating an autocephalous Ukrainian Church. Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko is trying to make this a key topic during his election campaign.
“The main line of confrontation between Vadim Novinsky and the presidential team is church issues. The deputy actively supports the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (Moscow Patriarchate). And he criticizes Poroshenko for interfering in church affairs,” writes Nezavisimaya Gazeta.
The publication recalls that the issue of depriving Novinsky of citizenship was already raised in 2016. The Prosecutor General's Office, on the initiative of autocephalist Metropolitan Alexander Drobinko, accused the oligarch of plotting against the late Metropolitan Vladimir.
Speaking in the Rada, Novinsky then reported shocking details: Petro Poroshenko himself applied for a Ukrainian passport.
“The submission from the Prosecutor General’s Office says that Yanukovych granted me citizenship. So I want to tell the prosecutor general so that he knows this: the basis for granting me citizenship by the former president of Ukraine was the request of the Minister of Economy - Petro Alekseevich Poroshenko... This is the letter and here is his signature. It says here that “for special services to Ukraine, I ask that Novinsky be granted citizenship”... So, it probably turns out that President Poroshenko is also a member of the criminal group that conceived this criminal plan to overthrow Metropolitan Vladimir?” – the newspaper quotes Novinsky as saying.
