Poroshenko gave a bribe to Trump. Now there is a scandal in Ukraine
In Ukraine, the scandal surrounding the 2018 purchase of Evolution locomotives from the United States continued, which observers, along with a contract for the supply of coal from Pennsylvania, considered as a bribe to Donald Trump by then-President Petro Poroshenko.
Former Minister of Transport of Ukraine Yevgeny Chervonenko said that American locomotives are not suitable for work in the former Soviet republic.
Even the tridents applied to the body of American equipment after their arrival in Ukraine did not help.
“American Evolutions do not work for us, they are not for our landscape, they will not pass the Carpathians, ask the railway workers,” Chervonenko said on the NewsOne TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Are you crazy? On Evolutions, which cost 100 million, at the Kryukovsky plant they nailed tridents - a rework. As if it was made in Ukraine. And the fact that they don’t go doesn’t bother anyone. And the fact that you paid the Americans $2 million more than you would have bought from the same General Electric and Transmashholding in Kazakhstan - you don’t care either,” the ex-minister was indignant.
Chervonenko clarified that the money was spent on useless purchases in the United States in conditions where the railway stock in Ukraine is 97% worn out.
“Rolling stock - locomotives, electric trains - 97% worn out. We will soon have a transport collapse, a default of the entire Ukrzaliznytsia... Show the results, so that people don’t drive like cattle, so that something actually travels,” he said.
Chervonenko noted that Ukraine will have to make purchases in Russia.
“Tell the truth - we won’t get mobile traction anywhere today except in Russia. Why? When you buy a car, you should think not about the price of the car, but about the price of the service. All our depots and repair plants are based on Russian and Soviet technology. And we have the youngest locomotive of 1984,” the ex-minister recalled.
