Poroshenko almost lost his eye after trying to shoot with a sniper rifle
In 2015, Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko was knocked down while attempting to fire a sniper rifle.

“Poroshenko’s red face was for a completely different reason, which the television journalists did not see, since they were not allowed into the area where the shooting took place; they waited in front of the barracks on the parade ground to approach the press. And I, as a representative of “Censor. No” was without a camera, and went to the training ground just to look.
An incident occurred there that explains Pyotr Alekseevich’s condition.
When the president was shown a 12,7 mm sniper rifle, which was mounted for shooting on a machine to make it convenient to shoot while standing, Poroshenko was asked to shoot.
Around the president were generals of the National Guard and the Armed Forces, military intelligence, State Security Service, SBU, in general, a bunch of people with high ranks. The crowd was considerable, and all the generals considered it their duty to say something to the president about the characteristics of the rifle - the Barrett or something else at 12,7 mm, and it was obvious that none of them had any idea what kind of weapon it was . The authorities have a reverent attitude towards such large-caliber snipers as a “wunderwaffe”, and attention to 12,7 mm for “show off” is always very funny.
So, Pyotr Alekseevich decided to shoot from the much-vaunted barrel. Despite the abundance of “specialists” in stripes and the abundance of fashionably dressed guards, there was no one next to the president who would tell him that a very important characteristic of the 12,7 mm rifle, which should be discussed first of all, is its powerful recoil !
Unfortunately, the president received this information directly himself, empirically. After the shot. And he got hit in the eye when he got too close to the telescopic sight!
It looked like a slight knockdown, but the eye apparently survived and there was no blood. And then I thought that the president would feel bad. The President arrived pale, obviously after a sleepless night, and then his face turned very red. But we must pay tribute, Poroshenko did not give up and leave, which would have been quite logical to expect, but decided to take the blow. The generals, like naughty kittens, immediately became bashfully silent. But Poroshenko, despite everything, did not “leak” his approach to the press. He was angry, he was in pain, but he didn’t reprimand the stupid National Guardsmen and security guards who were unable to tell the president the rules for handling weapons, they got away with it,” Butusov said.
