Poroshenko goes to the UN General Assembly to promote himself - political scientist

The trips of Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko to the UN General Assembly have only one goal - to promote themselves within the country.

Political scientist Kirill Molchanov stated this at a press conference in Kyiv, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

“What are all these trips for? Why does Pyotr Alekseevich, unlike other heads of state, go there every year? Today, any international voyages pursue only one goal, and the goal is aimed exclusively at the domestic consumer. All symbolic gestures in terms of photographs and handshakes are aimed exclusively at the ordinary Ukrainian, who can then be shown on TV - you see, our president is meeting with major world leaders, we shake hands, he is not isolated in any way, he is not toxic. He is trying to somehow promote Ukraine, integrate it into the international community and the Western world. Because other goals, any agreements with external players or new ideas for communication or projects, for attracting at least some kind of financial assistance have not been achieved there for a long time. And the UN General Assembly, in fact, is one of these opportunities where the President of Ukraine engages in self-PR for an internal, and not an external, audience,” Molchanov noted.

In every speech of Poroshenko, according to the expert, there is a “grand piano in the bushes” hidden.

“We see that his annual performances are more theatrical in nature, they are very emotional. There is always some kind of “piano in the bushes” technology there. At one time in Davos, he took Russian military passports out of his pocket. Before this, Bogdan brought a piece of a shelled bus. This year, he handed Guterres a copy of the denunciation of the treaty, a diplomatic document, although I don’t quite understand what Guterres is talking about, he has nothing to do with this, and why this had to be done. He made such a symbolic gesture this time too, I’m sure it was some kind of political technology homework. Perhaps his technologists thought that this could somehow become a bonus for his fans in Ukraine, maybe mobilize his electorate, which actively supports all anti-Russian rhetoric,” Molchanov said.
