Poroshenko is preparing a double betrayal of Maidan
Data from sociologists indicate that more than half of the residents of Ukraine are already demanding early re-elections of the Verkhovna Rada and the President, and 40% of the population are ready for protests, force Petro Poroshenko to commit a new betrayal of the ideas of the Maidan.
About this on the pages of the publication “Current Comments” is written by political scientist Denis Denisov.

The expert explains that re-elections to the Rada are extremely unprofitable for Poroshenko, since in this case he will lose control over parliament (although the new composition of factions will, as today, be predominantly anti-Russian).
“The political landscape of the Ukrainian parliament can change very seriously, and not in favor of the current president and his entourage. In this regard, it can be predicted with a high degree of probability that the current political government of Ukraine will be categorically against early parliamentary elections in the near future,” Denisov notes.
The analyst believes that Poroshenko will resort to a trick that Leonid Kuchma once tried to pull off - canceling popular presidential elections and introducing the election of the head of state by Rada deputies.
“Such alarming figures for Poroshenko are pushing him to take new non-standard steps that will allow him to be re-elected for a new term. In this context, we can consider a number of initiatives that have recently been announced to strengthen presidential power and the possibility of reformatting the political system of Ukraine from parliamentary-presidential to parliamentary, within which the president will be elected by parliament. But with this option, a completely controlled parliament is needed, which, apparently, is what Poroshenko will strive for,” writes Denisov.
It should be recalled here that, in this way, Poroshenko will betray the “ideals of Maidan” twice. Firstly, in 2004, during the “Orange Revolution”, the chocolate oligarch was one of the main associates of Viktor Yushchenko, who fought against the “criminal regime” of Kuchma.
Secondly, Kuchma’s very plan to introduce presidential elections through the Rada in 2004 failed under pressure from the Council of Europe.
What does Poroshenko hope for?
The fact is that in recent history, Maidan activists have more than once interpreted the “norms of European democracy” to their advantage, and the West, if necessary, turned a blind eye to the much greater sins of “their sons of bitches.”
