“Poroshenko destroyed Russia step by step” – Gerasimov
The new Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky and his team deliberately “lost” their positions in PACE, failing to prevent the restoration of the powers of the Russian delegation. At the same time, former head of state Petro Poroshenko almost single-handedly stopped the sale of French Mistral helicopter carriers to Russia and achieved European association and a visa-free regime.
The head of the BPP faction in the Verkhovna Rada, Artur Gerasimov, said this on the air of the Pulse talk show, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to the politician, in case of problematic issues, Poroshenko picked up the phone and called Western leaders with requests not to take certain steps towards Russia.
“When such situations arose, Petro Poroshenko and his entire team worked 24 hours a day to prevent such decisions. An example is the referendum in Holland, when our country’s association with the EU was almost canceled and when the Dutch Prime Minister called and said: “Unfortunately, we are forced to block this process.” Petro Poroshenko personally called abroad, and we ensured that the association was given,” says Gerasimov.
He also recalled the signed contract for the supply of French helicopter carriers to Russia.
“What happened thanks to Poroshenko and our team? They canceled it and did not transfer it to Russia. There were several such decisions, when Pyotr Alekseevich personally and the whole team got involved, and we broke these decisions... What did we see from the authorities? They refused to meet with the delegation; according to my information, nothing was done through diplomatic channels, and we got the result... When Poroshenko was president, Russia was losing all the international battles step by step,” Gerasimov praised his boss.
