Poroshenko said that he is “the president of all Ukrainians,” and therefore “must listen to the parliamentary opposition” and “take into account the existence of an ideological minority.”
According to him, “many, unfortunately,” citizens look positively at the idea of the Customs Union and granting state status to the Russian language.
This minority, Poroshenko emphasized, “we will not give veto rights to the geopolitical choice of the majority.”
The Ukrainian president said that Russian-speaking citizens should be satisfied with another promise from official Kyiv to respect “local specifics in matters of faith, historical memory, religion, language.”
“The Ukrainian language as a single sovereign language is an extremely important consolidating factor,” Poroshenko believes.
