Let us recall that on April 10, Petro Poroshenko, during a visit to Odessa, expressed a desire to simplify the procedure for Russians to obtain Ukrainian citizenship.
Today the Ukrainian president confirmed the corresponding initiative.
“Current procedures for granting citizenship do not allow me to do this, but I will amend the law so that we will be able to provide political asylum to those who are actually subject to political persecution for defending the Ukrainian position. I will simplify this,” Poroshenko is quoted as saying.Radio Liberty».
According to him, currently in such cases the law provides for “serious restrictions” and the need to prove “that this particular citizen represents a special and important public interest for Ukraine.”
However, the time frame within which this initiative will be implemented has not yet been specified.
