Poroshenko wanted to speak from a position of strength, but he will have to speak as equals
Kyiv, October 27 (PolitNavigator, Maxim Karpenko) – The parliamentary elections brought Petro Poroshenko both victory and defeat. Political scientist Yaroslav Makitra told a PolitNavigator correspondent about this.

According to him, this is due to the fact that in the new Rada Poroshenko will have more deputies than there were in the previous parliament. But at the same time, he was unable to achieve a convincing victory over his competitors, which prevents him from speaking from a position of strength.
“If we compare the composition of the Verkhovna Rada that was and the one that will be, then we can assume that Poroshenko benefited from the re-elections, he will have the largest faction in parliament, which his political force did not have before. But compared to what he expected, this can hardly be called a victory. Based on the current results, Poroshenko will have 150-160 mandates. Even with the involvement of self-nominated candidates, he will not be able to single-handedly form a coalition. Therefore, he made a proactive move and proposed creating a coalition. Now, however, there is still a question whether the coalition will consist of two factions, or three or more. Naturally, the president will now need to negotiate with the Popular Front, which, naturally, was not part of his original plans. It is obvious that he would like to speak from a position of strength, but he will have to speak from a position of equals,” says Yaroslav Makitra.
