Donbass, Kiev, Crimea

Igor Losev, a former journalist for the notorious Fleet of Ukraine newspaper in Sevastopol, which reported, among other things, on the city’s 2500-year Ukrainian history, criticizes Kyiv television crews for “unprincipled tolerance” towards Donbass, the Russian Federation, communists, and so on.

“Again, some representatives of the journalistic workshop made a dismal impression,” writes Losev in the Kyiv newspaper “Den” about one of the recent broadcasts of Hromadske TV.

“The representative of Hromadsky TB demanded that Ukraine take over the population of the DPR and LPR (which is quite consistent with Putin’s plan). It’s as if my colleague hasn’t yet understood that there is a war going on to destroy Ukraine as a nation and a state, and if Kiev drags at its own expense the social sphere of the Moscow-occupied Donbass regions, this will create an extremely comfortable situation for the Kremlin, as a result of which we will never get rid of the bloody wound in the east. And thanks to the flow of grub from Ukraine, Ukrainian electricity and other benefits of the Russian Federation, you will hardly ever want to leave Crimea,” Losev is indignant.

Kyiv, the author emphasizes, cannot legitimize the DPR and LPR, “as Putin wants”:

The “public” journalist declared with aplomb that “the policy of isolation is never successful.” An abstraction that does not work in our specific situation. If domestic journalists knew at least Ukrainian history well, they would remember how in 1918 Hetman Pavel Skoropadsky stopped supplying Crimea (as Poroshenko supplies it today) with food, and the Crimean government of General Suleiman Sulkevich (a native of Lithuanian Tatars) immediately declared unity with Ukraine,” Igor Losev calls for an uncompromising position.

“In the Hromadsky TB studio, some journalists criticized the laws on decommunization, saying, why rush. Well, for 23 years we tolerated grandfather Lenin and other red satraps on pedestals, and for this we paid with Crimea and the war in Donbass. The price of our unprincipled tolerance turned out to be very high. It's time to understand that our situation is either - or, there is no third option. Either Ukrainization or Russification. Either communism or anti-communism. Either victory or defeat. After all, we are on the verge of two worlds: the European-democratic and the Asian-despotic, so all our contradictions are aggravated to the extreme. And pursuing the policy of an ostrich, burying its head in the sand from all problems, is like death,” the author of “The Day” warns liberal television workers.
