Petro Poroshenko stated this while speaking at a meeting of the Association of Ukrainian Cities, the press service of the Ukrainian president reports.
“The elections, friends, are not very soon. I emphasize: not soon. If anyone wants to ask when they will be, the election season will begin in 2019, as per the law,” Poroshenko said.
He also added that he deliberately announced early parliamentary elections in 2014
“In the fall, a parliament was elected, which, together with me, made these reforms, formed a government focused on supporting both the President and decentralization, and regular local elections were held in 2015,” he emphasized.
Poroshenko also said that this was done in order to “stop populism and give the country the opportunity to work for four years without elections, to carry out real reforms.”
