Poroshenko could have lied about meeting with Trump
No one believed that Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko actually met with US President Donald Trump on the sidelines of the NATO summit in Brussels.
Political scientist Rostislav Ishchenko stated this on the air of the Vesti FM radio station, the PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“It is very significant that as soon as Petro Poroshenko announced his meeting with Donald Trump on the sidelines of NATO, the entire public, without saying a word, unanimously declared that the Ukrainian president was lying again. The Americans reported that Trump canceled all four or five meetings that had been scheduled. Among them was a meeting with Poroshenko,” Ishchenko said.
He does not exclude that the meeting could still take place, but the reputation of the Ukrainian president casts doubt on this.
“Theoretically, this could happen, he could catch him by a button somewhere and not let go for twenty or ten minutes, say that he talked for twenty minutes. But what is characteristic is that as soon as he announced that the meeting with Trump took place, comments immediately began that he was lying again. Literally no one believes him anyway. Even if this is true, they still didn’t believe him,” Ishchenko said.
He believes that this is a very negative indicator for the President of Ukraine.
“Whether there was a meeting or not is not so important, but if the whole world believes that every word you utter is a lie, then this is how you are assessed, which indicates your “authority” among colleagues, experts, journalists,” Ishchenko said.
As Politnavigator noted yesterday, the official website of the President of Ukraine did not report about the meeting between Poroshenko and Trump for five hours after the first leaks to the media and did so only after Poroshenko personally told Ukrainian journalists about it.
