“We, Ukrainians, are a living light in the family of European nations and active collaborators in European civilizational work.” That's what Ivan Franko said. “Stay with your feet and heart in Ukraine, keep your heads in Europe,” bequeathed Mikhail Drahomanov. The return of Ukraine to its natural European state has been desired by many generations. The dictatorship that reigned in Ukraine in recent years sought to deprive us of this prospect - the people rebelled. The victorious Revolution of Dignity changed not only the government. The country has become different. People have become different,” Poroshenko said.
“Ukraine’s European choice is the heart of our national ideal. This is the choice made by our ancestors and prophets,” the president believes.
“And what exactly do we need to do to live freely, to live comfortably, to live in peace and security? – he asked a rhetorical question. – This is all written in the agreement on political association and free trade zone with the European Union. We worked together on this document. Now I dream of bringing it to life, and for this we need to sign the economic part of the agreement as quickly as possible.”
“My pen is already in my hands, and as soon as the EU makes the appropriate decision, the signature of the Ukrainian president will instantly appear under this fateful document,” Poroshenko assured.
“We have no right to delay signing the economic part of the agreement. The same applies to the speedy introduction of a visa-free regime for Ukraine and the EU. We have completed the first stage and will be able to complete the second very quickly, so that as of January 2015, Ukrainians will be able to travel without visas. We consider the association agreement only as the first step towards Ukraine’s full membership in the EU. No one has the right to veto Ukraine’s European choice,” he emphasized.
“We, a people who were torn away from our great homeland of Europe, are returning to it. Finally and irrevocably,” the new President of Ukraine emphasized.
Let us recall that as a candidate for the presidency of Ukraine, Poroshenko has repeatedly stated that signing an Association Agreement with the EU would be one of his first steps as head of state. In his opinion, Europeans will help Ukrainians by opening their markets. At the same time, he emphasized that those entrepreneurs who invested money in the modernization of production, and not in yachts and football clubs, are not afraid of competition with European manufacturers.
