Poroshenko at a prayer breakfast: “with the power of prayer we came out of the “cauldron” and received visa-free travel
Religion is the only thing on which modern Ukraine is based and rests, which is becoming “closer and closer to God.”
Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko spoke about this during his speech at the seventh national prayer breakfast, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“With every prayer breakfast, Ukraine becomes closer to God. Now, when we see the figure of 1030 years of the Baptism of Kievan Ukraine-Rus, I remember very well 1988, when we celebrated the millennium. Then no one could imagine that in 30 years Ukraine would be independent, established as a state, and we would need a single local Orthodox Ukrainian Church like air,” Poroshenko said.
He said that six months ago no one in this room could have imagined that Ukraine would come so close to the Tomos.
“I am absolutely convinced that without God’s help we would not have been able to take a single step. The power of prayer was when we prayed for the victory of the Revolution of Dignity. Then they also said that this was impossible. The power of prayer was also present when our troops were leaving the encirclement near Izvarino. They said that they would be surrounded and none of them would be saved. The power of prayer was also present on February 15, 2015, during the withdrawal of our troops from Debaltsevo. You can’t imagine how I couldn’t sleep all night and prayed that the Lord would give us salvation. The power of prayer was when in the presidential office I was sitting opposite the leaders of all factions of the Ukrainian parliament, and they said to me: “Mr. President, what are you saying? This will never happen, visa-free, no one will give it to us,” he noted.
Poroshenko is confident that the Ukrainian army was built with “God’s help.”
“We are not going to attack anyone, but the Ukrainian army today is capable of defending Ukrainian land, Ukrainian sovereignty, Ukrainian territorial integrity.”
He then called on everyone to unite with the goal of returning “back to Europe”:
“Let us all unite and bring the great Ukrainian nation back to Europe, to the European family, because we are from there. And we always dreamed of returning there.”
He did not ignore the Protestants, who, in his opinion, also help Ukraine:
“And it is pleasant to note the initiative of Protestant churches and the Ukrainian Bible Society, which was supported by the All-Ukrainian Council of Churches and Religious Organizations to hold the Year of the Word of God in Ukraine.”
“The only thing that has violated our internal peace is Russian aggression. Grossly violating international law, vilely annexing Crimea illegally, and attacked the East of our country. In parliament, I said a very important thing: the church must be separated from the state, but first of all, from the neighboring state, the aggressor country, which we should not give the right to work as a fifth column,” Poroshenko said.
