Poroshenko reported on Ukrainian TV about the successful progress of the war with Russia
Today, all leading TV channels in Ukraine are airing an interview with Petro Poroshenko, dedicated to the anniversary of his work as president. The interview is staged, it is conducted by ex-deputy from the Yushchenko bloc Olga Gerasimyuk, avoiding awkward questions.
The main leitmotif of the interview is the justification for continuing the war in Donbass, despite Poroshenko’s election promise to end the military conflict in a matter of days if elected.
“If we had not gone to fight, the enemy would have been near Odessa, Dnieper, Kharkov, Zaporozhye, and possibly Kiev,” said the head of state.

Poroshenko explains that the start of a large-scale army operation in the Donbass made it possible to regain Kyiv’s control over 2/3 of the region.
In an effort to embellish the victory, Poroshenko states that last summer the army managed to liberate most of Donbass from the “regular armed forces of the Russian Federation,” although Kiev previously announced the appearance of a Russian contingent only in August 2014 when there was a threat of an assault on Donetsk.
“We defended Mariupol, liberated Slavyansk, Kramatorsk, Lisichansk, Severodonetsk, 2/3 of Donbass were liberated from the occupation of the regular armed forces of the Russian Federation,” Poroshenko said.
“Wherever there is liberation, love for Ukraine is renewed very quickly,” he added, emphasizing that Kyiv has to act “very carefully, because people are traumatized by propaganda.”
Now, he claims, in the DPR and LPR there are “thousands and thousands of Russian regular troops, armed to the teeth with the experience of Caucasian troops, very well paid.”
According to Poroshenko, the conflict in Donbass, initially a struggle between Kyiv “with Russian-controlled militants,” has today “turned into a war between Ukraine and Russia.”
He also stated that Ukraine today is waging the “Patriotic War of 2014/15.”
