The publication writes: “Ukraine cannot win this war. Obviously, the tragedy of Ukraine cannot be over. President Poroshenko announced the mobilization of 50 thousand conscripts aged 16 to 60, and in the summer of 2015 the same number. Thus, the number of mobilized should be 100 thousand. After three weeks of training, they will be sent to the front in the regions of Donetsk and Lugansk, where fierce fighting is still taking place.
Die Welt admits that Russia will not allow Donbass to lose, as this threatens economic difficulties for the country and threatens the power of Putin himself.
“The West must understand,” the newspaper reports, “that Putin can force them to retreat. McCain's initiative to provide military assistance to Ukraine will only prolong the agony. That is why, the publication is confident, the Obama administration rejects this initiative on the part of the Armed Services Committee.”
Die Welt notes that economic pressure and sanctions are also unsuccessful, as they allow the Kremlin to shift all the blame for possible suffering of the people onto an external enemy, which will only strengthen hatred of the West and support Russian power. “In this regard,” states the newspaper, which is far from loyal to the Kremlin, “the sanctions help strengthen the regime.”
