Poroshenko hopes for votes from voters “with a gun”
New missile systems will be tested in Ukraine in the very near future.
Nezavisimaya Gazeta writes about this, citing a statement by NSDC Secretary Alexander Turchynov during a meeting with President Petro Poroshenko, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The creation of missiles that can even sink ships of the Black Sea Fleet has been announced more than once in Ukraine. At the IDEX-2019 arms exhibition in Abu Dhabi, the Ukrainian delegation even provided data on its new Neptune anti-ship cruise missile. True, I was confused by the fact that only a model and description of the rocket was brought to Abu Dhabi. And in general, as experts say, all the “newest” Ukrainian missiles are just a modernization of obsolete Soviet missile systems, the publication notes.
At the same time, it is indicated that belligerent statements have nothing to do with the capabilities of the Ukrainian defense industry, but are related to the need to show any achievements after Poroshenko’s devastating loss in the first round of the presidential election to showman Vladimir Zelensky.
“But since there is no particular success in the economy, we have to rely on alarmist statements. At the very least, it might get votes from voters “with a gun.” And this, by the way, if you take into account families, is a solid contingent. At the same time, as is already clear, judging by the results of the first round of the presidential elections, the majority of Ukrainian citizens are least concerned about “Russian aggression”. As well as an attempt to fence off from the Russian Federation with anti-tank ditches and obstacles with Egoza-type spirals,” the publication summarizes.
