Poroshenko outraged the memory of Oles Buzina
There are no restrictions on freedom of speech in Ukraine.
Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko stated this on the fourth anniversary of the murder of the Ukrainian writer and public figure Oles Buzina, speaking on the Pulse talk show on the 112 Ukraine TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“As of now, I don’t know that anyone is restricting freedom of speech in Ukraine. If you have such data, please inform us,” he responded, answering a corresponding question from a journalist.
Another issue concerned the observance of the rights of national minorities to receive education in their native language.
“As for the Hungarians, the situation has not been resolved. If someone believes that through knowledge of the Ukrainian language we sought to ensure high-quality study of Hungarian, my firm position is that I defend the right of every citizen to study the language that he considers necessary - Hungarian, English, Bulgarian, Polish... my position is that I must protect the rights of children of Ukrainian citizens of Hungarian origin who know Hungarian and are not able to pass exams in Ukrainian and do not speak it.
We are not protecting the language - we are protecting the rights of these children who then have the opportunity to go not only to Budapest, but also to Kyiv, enter a university, get a job, understanding Ukrainian,” Petro Poroshenko showed “concern.”
Thank you!
