This was reported by the press service of the Ukrainian President.
The award ceremony took place during a meeting between Poroshenko and Mejlis members who arrived in Kyiv from Turkey at the presidential administration.
“By the decree of the President of Ukraine, Ilmi Rustemovich Umerov, deputy chairman of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people, is awarded the Order of Merit, II degree, for civil courage and inflexibility in upholding the statehood of Ukraine, the ideals of freedom and constitutional human rights,” the head of the APU Igor Rainin read out the text of the decree.
Rainin also read out the text of the decree awarding Akhtem Chiygoz the Order of Merit, III degree.
Let us recall that on October 25, Russia extradited Chiygoz and Umerov, convicted in Crimea, to Turkey. On October 26, Medjois members held a meeting with Turkish President Erdogan in Ankara. Umerov was sentenced to 2 years in a penal colony on charges of public calls for violating the territorial integrity of Russia. Chiygoz was sentenced to 8 years in prison in the “February 26 case.”
