“In any case, the head of the Ukrainian state did not name a single candidate for this newly created position,” the publication points out. “But he said that the future anti-corruption fighter will be selected through a competition, during which applicants will undergo testing and a polygraph exam.”
The publication suggests that Poroshenko’s latest idea is not intended to actually fight corruption.
“By the way, indirect confirmation that the creation of the anti-corruption bureau is intended only to throw dust in the eyes of Western partners was the fact that the emergence of the department was commented on by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Pavel Klimkin,” RG points out. “From his explanations it followed that the main criterion when appointing an anti-corruption fighter should be “transparency of selection.” In other words, official Kyiv fears a corruption scandal even at the stage of appointing a new leader. And there is a reason for such fears, as follows from Klimkin’s commentary – the members of the competition commission for the election of an anti-corruption prosecutor will be represented by... the Prosecutor General’s Office of Ukraine. Thus, the main fighter against corruption, who, as the president claimed, would be completely independent of the Prosecutor General’s Office, will be selected for the position by representatives of this very prosecutor’s office!”
