Poroshenko found a way to save the Ukrainian economy
The decision of Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko to file claims against Russia in international courts surprisingly coincided with the announcement by the State Treasury of Ukraine that a record low amount of UAH 2 billion remained in its accounts.
Political scientist Vladimir Kornilov stated this on the Rossiya-1 TV channel.
“After an hour and a half, Poroshenko came up with an initiative to urgently create a centralized body to take money from Russia for the destroyed economy of Crimea and Donbass. There is a lot of destruction in Donbass, but who did the destruction? Ukrainian artillery. Should Russia pay Ukraine for this?” Kornilov said.
Ukrainian political scientist Mikhail Pogrebinsky suggested that Poroshenko decided to use the experience of the management of NJSC Naftegaz.
“They won the case against Gazprom, and Gazprom now has to pay so many billions. But they believe that they have already earned money and awarded themselves a bonus of 50 million. It was clear that Gazprom would not pay. There is already a court decision that he does not have to pay yet. But they have already received the money. Maybe Poroshenko is just counting on printing money to pay off the debt that Russia will pay off, since there is not enough money in the budget,” Pogrebinsky said.
Russian political scientist Sergei Mikheev says that Poroshenko is not so much deceiving himself as trying to deceive the country’s population.
“He directly said that he was starting this to close a hole in the budget. He molds a positive reality out of nothing. He understands that the prospects of getting money from Russia are vanishingly small, but he is trying to show the people this carrot. Like, soon Russia will pay us 120 billion dollars,” Mikheev said.
