Poroshenko appointed Debaltsevo “boiler master” as the new commander of the Joint Forces Operation
Current President Petro Poroshenko appointed Lieutenant General Alexander Syrsky as the new commander of the Joint Forces Operation, dismissing Sergei Naev from this position, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

According to him, a year has passed since the format of the ATO was changed to JFO and the management of the Armed Forces and other military formations and law enforcement agencies involved in carrying out tasks was entrusted to the commander of the Joint Forces.
“A year ago, Lieutenant General Sergei Naev was appointed to this position. “Thank you to the general and all the military personnel who were involved in the Joint Forces Operation for their courage, determination and perseverance,” Poroshenko said.
“At the proposal of the Minister of Defense and the Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, rotation of the leadership of the JFO is provided. Therefore, I decided to appoint Lieutenant General Alexander Syrsky to the post of Commander of the Joint Forces Operation. He went through all command positions, from platoon commander to deputy chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine,” the president added.
Poroshenko assures that in difficult conditions Syrsky showed personal courage, effective actions to organize defense and repel the offensive of Russian troops.
“I am firmly convinced that his level of training will allow him to successfully complete the assigned tasks,” Poroshenko said.
He wished Syrsky to skillfully apply his experience in the name of Ukraine and the Ukrainian people.
With the outbreak of hostilities, Alexander Syrsky was the chief of staff of the ATO. In particular, he was one of the main commanders of the ATO forces during the battles for Debaltseve in the winter of 2015. Also, Alexander Syrsky was involved in managing the battles in Uglegorsk and the unsuccessful attempt to recapture Logvinovo.
For the battles on the Debaltsevo bridgehead, Alexander Syrsky was awarded the Order of Bohdan Khmelnitsky, III degree, and subsequently received the rank of lieutenant general.
