Poroshenko will not break the “Big Agreement”. Otherwise – catastrophic consequences
Kiev
Statements by Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko about breaking the treaty of friendship and cooperation with the Russian Federation are deception and an attempt to flirt with the nationalist electorate.
Verkhovna Rada deputy Yevgeny Muraev said this on NewsOne, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The cooperation agreement with the Russian Federation was signed on March 31, 1997. It is signed for 10 years, and can be terminated if one country notifies about it six months in advance.
Now let’s count – ’97, 2007, 2017. We are now in the 18th year, that is, it will no longer be possible to break it unilaterally, so these are populist political statements that Poroshenko makes to show the West that he is with them and he is theirs, and this is flirting with the radical part of the electorate our country, no more,” said Muraev.
The politician also emphasized that breaking this agreement would have catastrophic consequences for Ukraine: “Moreover, there are many important points in the cooperation agreement with the Russian Federation. Including recognition of the borders and sovereignty of Ukraine. If it is torn apart, we do not have complete demarcation of borders, we do not have other documents that would define the integrity of our state and its borders. This could have catastrophic consequences."
