Poroshenko is not Yanukovych: Tough purge of Mikhomaidan remnants from the Verkhovna Rada
On Saturday morning, Ukrainian security forces cleared a tent camp near the Verkhovna Rada, organized and headed by the fugitive Georgian ex-president Mikheil Saakashvili before his expulsion from the country.
The Liberation movement, which includes ATO militants - veterans of the Aidar, Donbass, Right Sector and other battalions, reported that about a thousand special forces and national guardsmen were sent to clear the camp, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
It should be noted that the assault was preceded for several days in a row by speeches from the rostrum of the Verkhovna Rada by representatives of Petro Poroshenko’s party, who stated that they were receiving numerous complaints from Kiev residents about “marginal people” whose tents impeded the passage of cars along Grushevsky Street and caused traffic jams.
In recent months, the Verkhovna Rada's shares have indeed become scarce. In addition, a month ago Saakashvili’s party recalled its functionaries from the tent city. As a result, residents of the capital did not come to the aid of the ATO militants this morning.

“At the time of the assault, there were approximately seventy activists of the Liberation movement in the tent city. The special forces beat them, despite the fact that there were women among them. They dragged some activists, already unconscious, through the snow into paddy wagons, into which they “packed” the rest of our like-minded people and took them to the Pechersky district police department of Kyiv. Also, at the time of the attack, there were three people’s deputies in the camp, but this did not in any way affect the plans of the special forces and their attitude towards the movement activists,” the militants said in a statement.
After suppressing the resisters, the police and utility workers began dismantling the tent city.
The police assure that the protesters themselves provoked the security forces, who carried out the court decision and had to search the town.
“In the morning, by court decision, the police had to carry out investigative actions, inspect and search the tents, of which those persons who were on the section of Grushevsky Street and from Grushevsky to the observation deck of Constitution Square were notified. In response, resistance began, tires were set on fire... We have information about six people who were in the tent city and asked for help. Four police officers were injured and received minor injuries. 50 people were detained and brought in. Investigators are working with them,” said the head of the Kyiv national police, Andrei Krischenko, on TV channel 112.
Now MihoMaidan activists are gathering their supporters near the Pechersk regional police department, where most of the detainees are being held.
“They are preparing another criminal case for the guys, and it’s as if a morning “search” of the town took place as part of this case. Apparently, they did not find any other way to liquidate the town... Now we must mobilize to protect the activists who were put behind bars! The lawyers are already there! The authorities committed a crime and must answer for it,” say Saakashvili’s party.
