He told reporters about this following his visit to France, where he met with Putin.
Poroshenko called it very symbolic that his first meeting with Putin took place during the celebration of the symbol of the unity of all of Europe in the struggle for peace. He emphasized that this meeting was organized by French President Francois Hollande, German Chancellor Angela Merkel with the assistance of US President Barack Obama.
“A short meeting took place... in the format of France, Germany, Russia and Ukraine, where we reached agreements on three things: a Russian representative is coming to Ukraine, with whom we will discuss the first steps towards a peaceful resolution of the situation and the plan that was proposed by me as president and in which provided for a number of steps on the part of the Russian Federation and a number of steps on the part of Ukraine,” Poroshenko said.
Preliminarily, we see that we may have a good chance of implementation,” he added.
Poroshenko also noted that the atmosphere during the negotiations was very tense, but despite this, it is a good fact that the dialogue has begun.
In addition, Poroshenko announced an agreement that in the near future there should be a statement from the Russian Federation on recognition of the results of the presidential elections in Ukraine.
“We are waiting for a statement on the recognition of the elections from the Russian Federation in the near future... We will look at the start of negotiations on Sunday,” Poroshenko added.
The rest of the agreements decided by the parties have not yet been disclosed.
“All the questions were difficult, including the reaction to the question I raised about the return of Crimea,” Poroshenko said.
As Navigator reported, today the office of the French President announced that Petro Poroshenko and Vladimir Putin shook hands and agreed on ways to resolve the crisis in Ukraine.
