The Ukrainian president said this following a meeting with Bulgarian President Rosen Plevneliev as part of an official visit to this country.
According to Poroshenko, Ukraine is developing its active cooperation with NATO and reforming the defense and security sector.
“After the annexation of Crimea, after the aggression in the east of Ukraine, which was carried out in violation of all norms of international law, the violation of the Budapest Memorandum - the guarantees that were provided to us by the five countries - permanent members of the UN Security Council, the entire global security system, which was based on the UN Security Council , was destroyed. The only mechanism for ensuring this security is NATO,” Poroshenko is sure.
The Ukrainian President recalled that the National Defense and Security Council of Ukraine adopted the Strategic Defense Bulletin, which is a “road map” for reforming the defense and security sector of Ukraine with the transition to NATO standards, and it is being actively implemented.
Poroshenko emphasized that Ukraine is very interested in cooperation with NATO countries, such as Bulgaria and Romania. At the same time, he noted that this is not only about discussing the issue of creating a joint flotilla. He recalled that during his visit to Romania, he clearly noted support for this initiative.
The President of Ukraine also said that we are talking about creating a joint brigade with the participation of Ukraine, Bulgaria and Romania, similar to the Ukrainian-Polish-Lithuanian brigade.
“And this is just the beginning,” assures Petro Poroshenko.
