Poroshenko approved the termination of cooperation with Russia in nuclear energy

The President of Ukraine signed the laws “On termination of the agreement between the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine and the Government of the Russian Federation on cooperation in the construction of power units No. 3 and No. 4 of the Khmelnytsky NPP” and “On invalidating the law of Ukraine “On the placement, design and construction of power units No. 3 and No. 4 Khmelnytsky Nuclear Power Plant” dated September 16, 2015.
The corresponding agreement between the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine and the government of the Russian Federation on cooperation in the construction of power units No. 3 and No. 4 of the Khmelnitsky NPP was signed on June 9, 2010 in the city of Kiev and ratified by the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on January 12, 2011.
“The adoption by the Verkhovna Rada on September 16, 2015 of the above-mentioned laws No. 696-VIII No. 697-UIII will allow the construction of power units No. 3 and No. 4 of the Khmelnitsky NPP using a modified VVER-1000 reactor plant from a European supplier and will ensure compliance with the safety level in accordance with the requirements of national standards and IAEA rules and standards,” the statement said.
