Director of the Ukrainian Politics Foundation Kost Bondarenko said this at a press conference in Kyiv, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Poroshenko decided to show who’s boss, but he didn’t show it,” the expert believes. – That is, there was enough determination to detain Korban, but to publicly and demonstratively punish him, there was not enough administrative resource, or influence, or authority, or all of this combined. We see that things are now falling apart. The signal was received that the authorities are not completely in control of the situation.”
At the same time, the director of the Ukrainian Politics Foundation is convinced that the further actions of the authorities looked generally comical when the security forces began to “take” representatives of the Yanukovych regime.
“An investigator comes to meetings of the conciliation council and tries to serve a subpoena on Novinsky, where he never goes, since only the heads of factions and committees go there, and not ordinary deputies,” the political scientist noted. – The investigator is pointedly kicked out. Then it turns out that the subpoena concerns a case in which Novinsky is a victim. Complete insanity begins, reaching the point that the deputies began to hit each other on the head with bottles. And as a result, Korban also finds himself under house arrest.”
At the same time, the expert draws attention to the fact that Korban was charged with charges for which such a preventive measure as house arrest is not provided at all.
“Initially he was accused of kidnappings,” emphasized Kost Bondarenko. – According to the Code of Criminal Procedure, these charges do not provide for release on bail. But now Corban’s case is effectively falling apart.”
