Poroshenko refused to leave at the end of his term
Political strategists and lawyers for the President of Ukraine are working to illegally extend his term in office for another year. Political scientist Kost Bondarenko writes about this on his blog, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to him, Poroshenko’s lawyers are now thinking through schemes that will allow the current president to hold office until 2020.

“There is an ongoing discussion about the possibility of postponing the presidential elections to March 2020. Base? The Constitution requires elections to be held on the last Sunday in March of the fifth year of the President's term.
And this is where the confusion begins. Like, in March 2019, Poroshenko will remain in office not for 5 years, but only for 4 years and 10 months, so let’s move it to March 2020.
But! The whole trick is that lawyers from Bankova do not want to admit one simple thing: after completing the full four years of being in power, the fifth begins!
That is, in March 2019 the president will be in his fifth year of office, and if the elections are postponed to 2020, they will take place in the sixth year of office,” Bondarenko said.
