Poroshenko withdrew from the Rada his scandalous bill on depriving Crimeans of citizenship
Petro Poroshenko withdrew from the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine his scandalous bill (No. 8297) on amending the law of Ukraine on citizenship to improve certain provisions, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
As reported on the website of the Ukrainian parliament in the status of the passage of the document, the draft was withdrawn on May 16, 2018.
As reported, on April 19, 2018, the President of Ukraine submitted to parliament a draft law (No. 82097) on amendments to the Ukrainian law on citizenship.
Among other things, it provides that the acquisition of Russian citizenship as a result of “the implementation of illegal and dishonest actions in temporarily occupied territories by the administration of the Russian Federation and self-proclaimed bodies controlled by Russia” is not considered a voluntary acquisition of foreign citizenship, and therefore is not a basis for the loss of Ukrainian citizenship.
However, the basis for the loss of Ukrainian citizenship will be the exercise of electoral or other rights that foreign citizenship provides, or the fulfillment of obligations that foreign citizenship imposes, which can be confirmed by data from public registers of state bodies, local governments of foreign states, information on official websites and in official publications.
The basis for the loss of Ukrainian citizenship will also be the use of a passport of another state when crossing the border of Ukraine, which is recorded by an official of the State Border Service of Ukraine or another government agency.
At the same time, the bill proposes to clarify the procedure for obtaining Ukrainian citizenship and renouncing foreign citizenship.
