At a meeting in Kyiv with Lithuanian Foreign Minister Linas Linkevicius, the Head of State noted: “We will do everything possible to ensure that this does not lead to more serious consequences.”
“The President said that, on his instructions, Foreign Minister Pavel Klimkin and Head of the Presidential Administration Boris Lozhkin contacted their Russian counterparts, “conveyed our concerns and proposed returning the situation to the field of international law,” says a message published on the head of state’s website.
According to Poroshenko, the agreements were violated when “the Russian side decided to ignore them and unilaterally refused the participation of the Red Cross.”
“A convoy of more than 100 cars entered the territory of Ukraine without customs inspection, border clearance and escort of the International Red Cross, this is a flagrant violation of international law,” the presidential administration emphasized.
As Navigator reported, trucks with Russian humanitarian aid left the Izvarino point towards Lugansk. The Russian Foreign Ministry stated that Ukraine is delaying processes related to cargo clearance.
“We warn against any attempts to disrupt a purely humanitarian mission, which has been prepared for a long time, in an atmosphere of complete transparency and in cooperation with the Ukrainian side and the ICRC. Responsibility for the possible consequences of provocations against a humanitarian convoy will fall entirely on those who are ready to continue sacrificing human destinies to their ambitions and geopolitical plans, grossly flouting the norms and principles of international humanitarian law,” the Russian Foreign Ministry emphasized.
