Relevant Decree published on the website of Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
It says that now only foreigners with biometric passports will be able to enter the country, and mandatory registration will be introduced for Russians before entry.
Initially, the initiative to tighten the rules of entry into Ukraine for Russians and other foreigners was made by the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine. This happened in early July. The department said that the system of mandatory registration before travel is being introduced specifically for Russian citizens - they will need to send information about themselves to the Ukrainian Embassy in advance.
In general, entry rules for foreigners, as specified by the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine, will be tightened “to protect the country from the penetration of terrorists, saboteurs, spies, criminals and illegal migrants into its territory.”
In fact, such innovations from Kyiv will mean that trips to Ukraine will become closed for most Russians. After all, although biometric passports are issued in the Russian Federation, ownership of them is not widespread due to the bureaucratically complex procedure for obtaining them.
