This was reported by the presidential press service.

It is reported that Petro Poroshenko signed four laws: “On the condemnation of the communist and national socialist (Nazi) totalitarian regimes in Ukraine and the ban on the propaganda of their symbols”; “On access to the archives of the repressive bodies of the communist totalitarian regime of 1917 - 1991”; “On the perpetuation of the victory over Nazism in the Second World War of 1939 – 1945” and “On the legal status and memory of fighters for the independence of Ukraine in the twentieth century.”

The documents prohibit Soviet symbols, condemn the communist regime, open the archives of the Soviet secret services and recognize the UPA and other organizations as fighters for the independence of Ukraine.

These laws were adopted by people's deputies at the morning meeting of the Verkhovna Nada on April 9 of this year by a majority vote.

Recall as PolitNavigator reported,  the adoption of these laws split Ukrainian society, caused a lot of protests in the southeast, and a large group of scientists, both from Ukraine and from Europe, the USA and other countries of the world, addressed Poroshenko with an open letter asking him not to sign these laws, since they will harm the image of Ukraine and do not contribute to the search for historical truth.

“The content of these laws contradicts the spirit of one of the most fundamental political rights: the right to freedom of expression. Their adoption will raise serious doubts about Ukraine's compliance with the principles of the Council of Europe and the OSCE, as well as a number of treaties and solemn statements adopted since Ukraine's independence in 1991.
If the laws come into force, it will be a crime in Ukraine to “question the legitimacy of the UPA, which massacred tens of thousands of Poles during one of the most disgusting acts of ethnic cleansing in the history of Ukraine, will not allow criticizing the UPA - an organization that collaborated with Nazi Germany, and also participated in Jewish pogroms in Ukraine,” – stated in the appeal of scientists.
