Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko stated this while on the demarcation line in the Tskhinvali region, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports with reference to Poroshenko’s press service.
“Ukraine supports and does everything to ensure the sovereignty and territorial integrity and independence of Georgia. It is very important that we are here now. And this is not a line of contact, not a line of occupation, this is an abyss between the past and the future,” Poroshenko said.
Poroshenko also once again criticized the policies of the Russian Federation, because of which, in his opinion, “people found themselves behind barbed wire.”
“On the one hand we see blooming Tbilisi, five-star hotels in Batumi, ski resorts... happy people, investors, economic growth, visa-free regime, association agreement. This all fully applies to both Ukraine and Georgia. What do we see from the other side of the abyss that the Russian Federation has made?.. Tears, a humanitarian catastrophe, we see a situation where people do not have basic rights to medical care, to a school for their children, to a means of subsistence, and most importantly, they do not have there is no hope that there will be any progress as long as the Russian Federation is there,” Poroshenko assures.
According to him, such an example gives Ukraine “even greater motivation to fight decisively for the restoration of the territorial integrity of Georgia and Ukraine, and we will do everything for that - that’s why I’m here.”
