Poroshenko boasted that he had arranged a passage yard for NATO agents from the General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces
In 2014, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine was “stuffed with FSB agents,” and NATO officials were prohibited from entering the Ministry of Defense. Today, everything is the other way around - NATO members feel at home in Ukrainian structures, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko said this during a speech to students in Kyiv, Poroshenko’s press service reports.
“Firstly, the state’s security sector has been deeply reformed. I can tell you a secret: when I was elected President, the law prohibited a NATO officer or official from entering the Ministry of Defense or the General Staff. On the 4th day, I invited a delegation, sent it to the General Staff, and the General Staff said: Mr. President, we cannot let them in, it is prohibited by law,” Poroshenko boasted.
According to him, one of the first legislative initiatives was the abolition of absolutely Soviet prohibitions and an open door policy towards NATO agents.
“This is when the General Staff, the Ministry of Defense, and the special service were stuffed with KGB FSB agents,” Poroshenko assures.
He noted that since then, “a very powerful cleansing operation has been carried out in the military structures - from the front.”
“It’s nice that today the vast majority of military personnel from both the Ministry of Defense and the General Staff are combat officers who have passed the tests,” he assures.
