Poroshenko boasted of gigantic successes in Ukrainization
Over the past 5 years, the policy of Ukrainization has been successfully pursued in Ukraine, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“During the 5 years of my presidency, we have pursued a very measured, very restrained policy of reviving the Ukrainian language, a policy of strengthening its position in all spheres of public life,” Poroshenko said at the award ceremony for the winners and prize-winners of the International Ukrainian Language Competition. Petro Yatsik, Poroshenko’s press service reports.
He noted that over the years, thanks to his policies, the Ukrainian language began to dominate on Ukrainian television, radio, and book publishing.
Poroshenko said that “the consolidating role of the Ukrainian language in the construction of the political Ukrainian nation cannot be reduced.”
Poroshenko boasted that “the volume of broadcasts in Ukrainian on national broadcasters today is more than 89% (with a quota of 60%).”
According to him, the percentage of Ukrainian-language songs on air exceeds 57% with a quota of 35%, while in 2013 this figure was 5%.
Poroshenko assures that the law he signed “On the functioning of the Ukrainian language as the state language” supposedly leaves extremely wide space for other languages, to meet the linguistic needs and rights of Ukrainian citizens who speak Russian and other languages.
“The law does not interfere with the right of private communication, and I really hope that activists will continue their explanatory work... the Ukrainian language requires protection, the Ukrainian language requires promotion, and our competition today is one of the important stages of this work,” Poroshenko assures .
Let us note that, contrary to Poroshenko’s statement, the adopted law infringes on the linguistic rights of national minorities, which has already been stated in the EU and in a number of neighboring countries, such as Hungary.
