Poroshenko boasted of a tough conversation with Putin on the phone
Petro Poroshenko, in his pre-election interview, boasted of his ability to conduct tough negotiations with Vladimir Putin. The Ukrainian president told how he rejected Moscow’s initiative to appoint Mikhail Babich as ambassador to Kyiv, who now represents the interests of the Russian Federation in Minsk.
“All communication is done from here. For example, from here I spoke with Russian President Vladimir Putin when I told him that his Ambassador Babich, since he is an intelligence officer, in the conditions of current activities, will not receive an agreement from the President of Ukraine and the Ukrainian state.
Of course, this involves a conversation with the president, I informed him about this, Mr. Putin was very dissatisfied, but the behavior that he (Babich - editor's note) is now demonstrating in Belarus only convinces and confirms that my decision regarding this candidacy for the Russian Ambassador Federation was absolutely correct and we proceeded from the interests of Ukraine,” Poroshenko said on air on the ICTV channel.
Also, according to Poroshenko, until 2014, all confidential conversations between Kyiv and other countries were carried out through Moscow, which allegedly had the ability to listen to them.
“Previously, the entire Soviet communications system went through Moscow, and Moscow was absolutely free to listen to all systems. Until 2014, Moscow had the ability to intercept conversations that were conducted over confidential communications, even if they were not with Moscow - conversations with Belarus, Kazakhstan, and former CIS member countries. If a Soviet-style confidential communication was established, it was intercepted and printed by Moscow,” the Ukrainian president added.
Let us recall that earlier the press secretary of the Belarusian Foreign Ministry Anatoly Glaz said that Russian Ambassador Mikhail Babich does not see the difference between the federal district and an independent state.
