Petro Poroshenko put UPA militants ahead of the heroes of the Red Army in his speech on the occasion of Defender of the Fatherland Day, which was postponed from February 23, celebrated today.

“Become worthy of the military valor of the princely warriors of Rus'-Ukraine, the Sich members of Zaporozhye, the heroes of Krut, the UPA soldiers; those Ukrainians who fought against Nazism in the ranks of the Red Army,” Poroshenko said, addressing the cadets.
“Two years ago, I decided to abandon the vicious tradition of celebrating the main military holiday of our independent power according to the calendar of the aggressor country. And the new date took root surprisingly quickly. Why? Because its roots are in the ancient holiday of the Intercession, which was especially deeply revered by our Cossack ancestors. Its roots are in the smoking areas of the Sich and in the fighting of the Ukrainian Insurgent Army. October 14 symbolizes the inextricable connection of all generations of defenders of Ukraine. The Day of Defender of Ukraine is consecrated with the blood of our soldiers and the tears of mothers,” Poroshenko proclaimed.
Let us recall that Polish deputies found the UPA guilty of genocide of the Polish population in Western Ukraine.
