Poroshenko has embarrassed his European allies
Having exhausted all diplomatic tricks, Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko directly announced his reluctance to implement the Minsk agreements, declaring that “Ukraine will not advance further in the political process,” writes Rossiyskaya Gazeta.

“Poroshenko addressed the unofficial refusal to implement the political part of the Minsk agreements to representatives of “foreign embassies,” namely France and Germany, whose leaders agreed in February 2015 on a set of measures to implement them, but have still not been able to get even a hint from their Ukrainian protégés the desire to resolve the civil conflict peacefully, the newspaper points out. – Poroshenko’s words sound all the more brazen if we recall the latest statements by the heads of the Foreign Ministries of France and Germany that Kiev’s implementation of the political part of the agreements – elections, amnesty, amendments to the constitution on the special status of “certain regions of the Donetsk and Lugansk regions” – precedes the receipt of the Ukrainian side of border access.”
“It seems that, taking advantage of the temporary fading of interest in Ukraine on the part of Washington, caused by the election campaign, and keeping in mind the upcoming elections in France and Germany, Kyiv decided to play its own game, unilaterally freezing Minsk-2,” the publication summarizes. “Thereby putting in an awkward position their European allies and sponsors, who two years ago were counting on prudence and commitment to “European values” of the new Ukrainian authorities.”
