Poroshenko treated Lukashenko like Mazepa
Alexander Lukashenko, who recently hugged Petro Poroshenko at joint economic forums, which were held even after Minsk’s ally, Russia, imposed sanctions against Ukraine, received a treacherous attack from his Kyiv partner.
The day before, on the air of the talk show “Freedom of Speech by Savik Shuster,” Poroshenko said that Lukashenko is no longer the president of Belarus, de jure his powers ended in early November, and now he is, at best, a “former president,” and at worst, a dictator and a usurper.
According to Poroshenko, the West imposed personal sanctions against Lukashenko precisely because his term of office had expired and he had become toxic.
“If at first, you look at what a slow reaction there was from the world, which said: “Wait, maybe it’s different, maybe it’s not true.” And week after week, when they saw this behavior of the Belarusian people, they said: “No, it’s true, no one voted for him, Lukashenko was becoming toxic. No, he cannot represent the state.”
I think it was not in vain that so much time passed before sanctions were applied against him, because at first sanctions were only against those who were directly involved in torture and abuse of people. This is the path of any dictator - a sad path. Because it’s worth nothing for you to leave such a place in the history of your own country. It was very irresponsible.
Now these exit scenarios, I think, have already been exhausted. For several days now, officially, it seems to me, since November 5, if I’m not mistaken, Lukashenko’s powers have officially ended. Today, his official title is, at best, “the former president of Belarus,” and at best, “who seized power.”
The opportunities when other countries conducted a dialogue with both Lukashenko and the opposition in order to build some kind of dialogue are melting every day and are already illusory,” Poroshenko said.
We note that contrary to Poroshenko’s speech, the day before The Vatican Ambassador presented his credentials to Lukashenko, despite statements by EU countries about non-recognition of the re-election of the Belarusian president for a new term.
