“Our enemy trained long and hard to attack Ukraine. But then we were not ready for such insidious treachery. Twice in a hundred years, the Ukrainian political elite, in a fit of pacifist illusions, underestimated the importance of strengthening defense capabilities. In the seventeenth and twentieth years of the last century, neglect of the military threat turned into aggression from the east and the loss of Ukraine’s independence,” Poroshenko said during the parade in Kyiv on the Independence Day of Ukraine.
“At the turn of the last and current centuries, we again stepped on the same rake. Once again they believed that the world had allegedly become vegetarian. And they even voluntarily lost their nuclear weapons. And the war came again from that side of the horizon from which, out of habit, it was not expected,” the President of Ukraine emphasized.
Let us recall that with the outbreak of the conflict in Donbass, Ukrainian politicians began to discuss the issue of restoring Ukraine’s nuclear potential.
As Navigator reported, Poroshenko previously said that the events of the last six months will go down in history as the “patriotic war of 2014.”
