Poroshenko proposes to legalize calling for questioning through the media
Petro Poroshenko submitted to the Verkhovna Rada draft amendments to the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine. Project No. 5490 on improving mechanisms for ensuring the tasks of criminal proceedings is defined as urgent.

The draft law proposes to provide for the possibility of summoning a person who is outside of Ukraine by sending a summons to his last known place of residence or stay and mandatory publication in the print media of the Cabinet of Ministers or the Verkhovna Rada and on the official website of the body conducting the pre-trial investigation.
“In such cases, the person is considered to be properly familiar with the contents of the summons from the moment of its publication in these media,” the presidential press service said in a statement.
The bill also provides for an increase to 18 months in the maximum permissible period of detention in cases where we are talking about particularly complex criminal proceedings in relation to particularly serious crimes committed by organized groups and criminal organizations.
