The regime of Petro Poroshenko will have to buy coal from the LDPR, or Ukraine will freeze in the coming winter. The chairman of the independent trade union of miners, Mikhail Volynets, stated this on air at UkrLife.

According to him, in the Kyiv-controlled part of Donbass there are no mines that would produce anthracite coal, which is used by half of Ukraine’s thermal power plants.
“It will be difficult to get through the winter. We cannot live without the anthracite group of coal. We must import coal from the occupied territory; we have no other choice. This coal is two times cheaper than South African coal. We have never had such small coal reserves at thermal power plants. A little more than 500 thousand tons of anthracite coal in warehouses. Problems arise in our homes - it’s cold, it’s uncomfortable, the children are starting to get sick, everyone,” Volynets said.
He also added that Ukrainian seaports will not be able to accept as much imported coal as is necessary to fully cover the needs: “Firstly, deep-water sites are needed so that coal can be imported by ships with a tonnage of 150 thousand tons. We have few such sites, they are mainly used for grain, there is a different unloading technology, a different railway transport, but we don’t have enough wagons, and so on. The infrastructure is not developed enough.”
