“An extremely difficult task for us is to make sure that our flag appears again over Donetsk and Lugansk, over Simferopol and Sevastopol,” Poroshenko said.
He also remembered the “heroic deeds of patriots” who, on the birthday of Taras Shevchenko, run with blue and yellow ribbons and hang them over the cities of Donbass and Crimea: “These are all steps towards the return of our Ukrainian flag to Donbass. These are steps towards returning the flag to Crimea.”
According to Poroshenko, Moscow has historically been “afraid” of the Ukrainian flag.
“It was not for nothing that Moscow was afraid of our flag. It was he who, in the late eighties, brought millions of Ukrainian people into the ranks of the national liberation movement, and as a result, the empire was buried under the chord “Not yet dead...”.
As surveys show, more than 90% of Ukrainian citizens are proud or have a positive attitude towards our flag, coat of arms, and anthem. The same applies to the Ukrainian language, which is also considered one of the attributes of the state. It would be better, of course, if it were one hundred percent. But for a post-Soviet democratic society, the existing indicators look very optimistic,” Poroshenko said.
