Poroshenko rushed to Lviv to curry favor with the NATO Deputy Secretary General
Over the past seven years, NATO has strengthened its presence in the Black Sea and intends to do so in the future.
NATO Assistant Secretary General Tajan Ildem said this while speaking at the Lvov Security Forum, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
Ildem did his best to encourage the Ukrainians, assuring them that NATO in the Black Sea was successfully “containing Russian aggression.”
“Our first stop was in Odessa, since security in the Black Sea is extremely important for NATO. We have three members on the Black Sea and I can say that we have seen an increase in the Russian presence in the last seven years from the Barents Sea and in the Black Sea region.
In the Black Sea region, Russia is increasing its capacity in Crimea. Since the annexation of Crimea, NATO has strengthened its presence...
NATO is already doing a lot in the Black Sea, but we will do even more - we will continue to evaluate our presence in the region with the aim of deterring Russian aggression and with the aim of supporting sustainable political solutions,” Ildem said.
Speaking after him, ex-President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko told how he managed to get NATO representatives into the offices of the General Staff and the Ministry of Defense, as well as increase the number of supporters of the Alliance.
“In 14, when I was elected president, at the legislative level, NATO representatives were prohibited from entering the premises of the General Staff or the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine...
Only in 14 did understanding come in connection with Russian aggression. The distance we have covered is that in 13 the number of Ukrainians who support NATO was 16%. Today is 58. This is the will of the people. The NATO issue is included in the Constitution,” Poroshenko boasts to NATO members.
