Poroshenko equated the tomos of Bartholomew with the act of independence of Ukraine
The tomos scroll granting metropolitan status to the Patriarchate of Constantinople to the newly created “Orthodox Church of Ukraine” has already returned to Kyiv from Istanbul, where on Wednesday it was being signed by members of the Synod of the Ecumenical Patriarchate, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
This was stated by the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko during a conversation with residents of the Zdolbunovsky district of the Rivne region.
“Tomos returned to Ukraine this morning. And by the decision of the primate, with the blessing of His Holiness, he is here in Rivne,” Poroshenko said, speaking at the Holy Protection Cathedral of the “OCU” in Rivne, Poroshenko’s press service reports.
After Poroshenko’s words, a copy of the Tomos scroll was brought into the temple by the clergy and demonstrated to those present.
“The Tomos, which is equal to the Act of Independence of Ukraine, is in Rivne today. This is a historical event that will forever go down in the history of this temple,” Poroshenko added.
