“This is the first election to be held under the conditions of the introduction of European Union and NATO standards, including changes to the Constitution (of Ukraine - Ed.),” the head of state emphasized.

At the same time, he said that Ukraine must have effective means of countering “Russian interference” in the election campaign.

“Both from the point of view of our special bodies, and from the point of view of information from our partners, that Russia is going to actively interfere in the election campaign through disinformation systems, and through systems of falsification of the electoral process, and through systems of hacker cyber attacks, in order to disrupt the elections.” ,” Poroshenko said.

In this regard, the president noted that he hopes for the effective work of the Central Election Commission, “so that we have effective countermeasures to protect the choice of the Ukrainian people.”

On September 20, 2018, 14 people, mainly nominated by the BPP and Popular Front factions, became new members of the CEC by decision of the parliament. On October 4, all 14 new members of the Central Election Commission took the oath of office in the Verkhovna Rada.

The next presidential elections in Ukraine are scheduled for the spring of 2019, the next elections of people's deputies - for the fall of 2019.
