Poroshenko lost the war he promised to win
Going to the presidential elections in 2014, Petro Poroshenko promised to end the war, but he never kept his word.
Ruslan Bortnik, director of the Ukrainian Institute of Policy Analysis and Management, recalled this at a press conference in Kyiv, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
The expert questioned the statements of the president’s supporters about the alleged strengthening of the Ukrainian army under Poroshenko.
“During Poroshenko’s tenure as president, Ukraine suffered a severe defeat in Ilovaisk, we lost control of Donetsk airport, we were forced to leave Debaltseve and the surrounding area. We basically lost the war. Today our Ukrainian army has learned to defend itself. Since there is no war, it is now impossible to talk about whether the army is strong or weak; there is nothing to check. There is trench warfare going on without the goal of seizing territories and defeating each other in the Donbass,” the political scientist said.
He emphasized that, together with other oligarchs, Poroshenko robbed and destroyed military-industrial complex enterprises.
“Only people with short memories or those who are blind can say that the army has strengthened or the president has saved the country. It was President Poroshenko who lost 10% of Ukrainian territory and 5 million Ukrainian citizens who today live in Crimea and Donbass.
When Pyotr Alekseevich came to power in May-June 2014, there was no war as such. In Donetsk and Lugansk, Ukrainian flags still hung on many institutions. The entire conflict developed around Slavyansk and certain points, but there was no full-scale war. Ukraine was still in the same Donbass, presidential elections were held in many territories that Ukraine does not control today,” Bortnik noted.
